Ephesians 1:7-10

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight, making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. White Bread Recipe

Sorry this is the first day that I’ve been able to post on my blog this week.  We’ve had a pretty busy week here, but as promised I have my recipe for one of my favorite breads to make in the bread machine.  Here is the basic recipe:

White Bread

¾ cup milk (or water), room temperature
1 ½ Tbsp olive oil (or veggie oil)
1 ½ Tbsp granulated sugar (or honey)
½ tsp salt
2 ¼ cup bread flour
3 tsp vital wheat gluten (optional)
1 ½ tsp yeast

Add ingredients, in order, to bread machine pan.  Use basic cycle, 1 ½ lb. loaf, light crust.  You will probably have to add a little water or milk after it has mixed together.

This bread is very versatile.  Here are just a few substitutions and additions for the bread.
  • Add dry herbs (how much depends on what type of herbs you use).  Soak your dry herbs in the warmed milk for about ten minutes before turning the bread machine on.
  • Substitute ½ cup potato water and ¼ cup mashed potatoes for the milk to make potato bread.  Wait several minutes after mixing before adding more water.  (I haven’t tried this with this specific recipe, but I have done it with others so I am assuming this one will turn out fine.)
  • Substitute ¾ cup of bread flour with whole wheat flour and increase wheat gluten to 3 ½ tsp.

I hope you like it.  We love it for sandwich bread.  One substitution I am hoping to try out with this recipe is adding oats to it.  If I figure out the correct recipe for that I will definitely post it in the future.

  1. Are you thinking whole oats, or ground? It sounds good!

  2. I was thinking whole oats. I've tried other recipes, but they tend to be crumbly. I just want to make this recipe healthier, while still having the bread be mostly the same in texture and taste.
