Modesty—Corrupted by the World

When Adam and Eve sinned, not only were they cursed, but everything else in this world was also placed under the curse.  So it should not surprise us that modesty has been corrupted by the world.

The world tells women that they should show their bodies for pride and self-confidence.  It’s freeing and liberating.  Playboy is for the power of women.  Dressing sexy is to show our confidence in ourselves and how good our bodies look.  We do not need to cover up from the world, but expose ourselves to not be controlled by the world.

Modesty — Cares About Others

 

I know that this week’s topic can be kind of controversial.  Usually there is much heated debate on blogs and Facebook about this subject.  However, it is very important to modesty, and one of the many reasons we are called to be modest.  So, I cannot write without addressing the topic of dressing with a concern towards others’ weaknesses in sin.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”  (Matthew 5:27-28)

This is not to say that the person who wears skimpy clothing is responsible for that guy’s sin of thought. 

An Open Letter to My Husband on His Birthday

 

To my one,

With all that we have going on, the craziness our year has become and may further continue to be, I want to take a moment to wish you a most blessed birthday.  We’ve known each other for almost eleven years, been married almost seven, and there is no one in this world I would rather be bound to for this lifetime on Earth than you.

Modesty is Self-Control

 

Self-control.

Those dreaded words that are not used so much anymore in our society that is more concerned with bigger and better things than what we presently have.  Those dreaded words when we want something that we know probably won’t give us what we want, but we take it anyways; we act on it anyways.

Is this how God calls us to act?

Modesty—Glorifies God, Part 2

Another question that I posed at the beginning of the series was:

Do I even have a right to address this topic to other Christians?  Let’s not judge, right?

Well, besides the fact that God cares and gives me the authority to talk about such a topic, what I want to go into deeper today is how we approach a fellow Christian when they are not acting or dressing modestly.

Modesty—Glorifies God

So we know that God calls for us to be modest, but why?  I would say that the main reason for modesty, and really all things that we do, is to bring glory to God. 

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  (1 Corinthians 10:31)

That is why we were created, and we usually fail miserably at it.  Our own desires war against us.  Satan and his gang are out to discredit and destroy anything that would bring glory to God.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.  (Ephesians 6:12)

We don’t have a chance, right?
